New DNA results that were taken from a hair on Adolf Hitler’s wife’s hair brush confirm that she was Jewish.
The Ground-breaking DNA tests almost 70 years after her death have revealed that Eva Braun counted Ashkenazi Jews among her forebears.
Researchers bought locks of Hitler’s lover’s hair for over $1,500, which had previously been found on one of her hairbrushes. The tests revealed a sequence of DNA strongly associated with Ashkenazi Jews.
“I never dreamt that I would find such a potentially extraordinary and profound result,” said Mark Evans, who hosts the program “Dead Famous DNA” for Britain’s Channel 4.
The dictator’s wife was brought up as a Catholic – but if Hitler knew that she had Jewish ancestry, it would have been lights out for Braun.
The hair was taken from a brush retrieved by a U.S. soldier who was posted to Hitler’s Bavarian retreat, Berghof, at the end of the war.
Braun fell in love with Hitler when she was just a teenager, despite him being 23 years older. They both committed suicide at the end of the war as the Allies and Soviets approached Berlin in 1945.
