Normally Jews get a free pass when they say something offensive about other Jews, but not this time.
Legendary insult comedian Joan Rivers is being blasted by the Anti-Defamation League for a comment she made about how hot German born model Heidi Klum looked on Oscar night.
“The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens,” Rivers said on her E Network show Monday.
Rivers then doubled over in laughter while her co-hosts on the E!’s Fashion Police all looked uncertain how to react.
The tasteless joke has infuriated the ADL, calling Rivers “vulgar and offensive to Jews and Holocaust survivors, and indeed to all Americans.”
“Of all people, Joan Rivers should know better,” said ADL honcho Abraham Foxman.
“We cannot believe it made it to the airwaves,” he added. “Making it worse, not one of her co-hosts made any effort to respond or to condemn this hideous statement, leaving it hanging out there and giving it added legitimacy through their silence.”
Foxman then demanded a formal apology and asked E! to yank the segment from future broadcasts.
“There are certain things about the Holocaust that should be taboo,” Foxman continues. “This is especially true for Jews, for whom the Holocaust is still a deeply painful memory. It is vulgar and offensive for anybody to use the death of 6 million Jews and millions of others in the Holocaust to make a joke, but this is especially true for someone who is Jewish and who proudly and publicly wears her Jewishness on her sleeve.”
E! network has not responded to Foxman’s demand, but Rivers has responded by refusing to apologize.
