The biggest selling issue for Sports Illustrated is their annual swimsuit issue. Over the past few years ESPN magazine has tried to cash in on the old “sex sells” adage by publishing an annual body issue where famous athletes pose in the nude.

Again, this issue is ESPN’s best selling issue of the calendar year. The same is true for Allure magazine, which is a women’s magazine, but their naked issue is their biggest seller. Whether it’s skimpy bathing suit or birthday suits, fans of these magazines can’t get enough of sexy artistic images of famous people posing in the buff.

This year, ESPN has convinced athletes such as New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler and US soccer sensation Abby Wambach to strip down for the body issue. Other shots that caught our eye were sailing phenom Anna Tunnacliffe and surfer Maya Gabeira.

Back in 2010, ESPN’s second annual body issue featured the entire US Women’s Water Polo team stripping down for the cover. Over 50 top athletes¬†have posed nude for the popular issue, the photos are always artistic and never really show much more than a little butt.¬† The body issue has done a good job celebrating some of the most well known figures in sports in their top athletic form.
