Motown Sound by the Funk Brothers

Everyone loved the Motown sound.   It was a style of music by itself that was the standard in the industry.   But the question is, why ?

Simple . . . the FUNK BROTHERS.   The FUNK BROTHERS were the house band for Motown from 1958 – ’70’s.   They created the Motown Sound and supported superstars like Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, the Marvelettes, Four Tops, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and many more.

They played on more number-one records than the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Elvis Presley combined.

America loved the Motown sound.   It didn’t matter which superstar performed, it was that warm familiar sound that captured America.   Owner, Berry Gordy was onto something.

Unfortunately, The FUNK BROTHERS didn’t get the credit they deserved until the release of the film “Standing in the Shadows of Motown” in 2002 which revived the real legends behind the sound.

I could only imagine, what if a label today followed the model of Motown using a great house band like the FUNK BROTHERS . . . what would be the effect in todays music world ?

Here is a little more on the FUNK BROTHERS
