The Daily Show Gets to the Bottom of This Thing Called Science

Science, who needs it? It’s all filled with facts and hard evidence, and data. Not just any data but data that comes from research done by people with degrees in Science. On last night’s Daily Show, Republican Strategist, Noelle Nikpour said it best. “Scientists are the only ones qualified to comment on scientific theory!” As the reporter points out in the story, “That would be like surgeons being the only ones being allowed to perform surgery.”  Ms Nikpour says, “That’s exactly right, it doesn’t make any sense.”

Everything scientists do is subjected to a process called peer review, but who are their peers? Other scientists and what do they know? The Republicans are right on the money with this one. Who needs science, when uneducated people can speculate on issues.

Take evolution, sure Darwin spent his whole life researching his theory and was one of the greatest minds of the 19th century, but 68 percent of Republicans don’t believe in evolution. They believe that God created man and the world. Who needs scientific facts and evidence when you have speculation? And who backs up the scientific facts in Darwin’s theory of evolution? Other scientists, what do they know?

Now we have all this scientific evidence about global warming. Who cares that the science community has spent years measuring the Earth’s temperatures and it is on the rise. Even though 83 per cent of Americans believe that global warming is real, GOP hopefuls Rick Perry and Rick Santorum say it’s hogwash and “Patently absurd.” Who needs a bunch of over-educated scientists telling us what’s right, even though they have scientific data and facts to back it up.

I like the fact that the Republicans are way out in front on these important topics. It’s time we all start listening to not-so-educated guys who can guess on subjects like evolution and global warming. For more on the story, check out our friends at [DailyShow]

That interview with Ms. Nikpour was one of the most astonishing instances of stupidity I have ever witnessed. I still can’t wrap my head around the possibility that this woman, who apparently gets paid big bucks as a “consultant” and a Fox News talking head, actually believes the idiocy coming out of her mouth. Only issue I have to pick with your post: I’m skeptical that 92% of Americans believe in man-made climate change. The numbers I’ve seen recently unfortunately indicate a great deal of skepticism.
