The Decade of the Most Beautiful Women: 1960’s

It is an age-long debate, but in my opinion, the 1960’s had the most beautiful women of any other decade. I envy the photographers who had subjects such as, Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Raquel Welch and Ann Margret. Sure the 1990’s was the age of the super-model and today everybody is so impressed with Angelina Jolie, but for my money, no other era comes close to the women of the 1960’s.

Twenty years ago, I was hired by TNT to shoot a series on great actresses of the 40’s and 50’s. I filmed Lauren Bacall, Dorothy Lamour, Ester Williams, Ann Miller, June Allison, Joan Fontaine and more, but they were older women by this time and I never saw them in their prime. At that same time, I was hired to shoot Jane Fonda for a TNT movie called “Fonda On Fonda” It was Jane talking about her dad’s films. Jane was 52, and we filmed her in her home in Santa Monica. To this day, I have never seen a more beautiful woman in her 50’s. She was breath taking.

I still don’t think there are two more beautiful women in history than Sophia Lauren and Elizabeth Taylor when they were young. Sophia Loren is in her 80’s, and she still looks amazing. Maybe it was the hair and makeup or maybe the photographers were just better back in the 60’s, as far as their use of glamour light, but this list runs deep. Even actresses like Catherine Deneuve and Julie Christie were just plain stunning.

We here at News Burner have compiled a list. You be the judge. Please leave comments, I want some feedback on this.

I def think Angelina Jolie kicks the crap out of all of them. I don’t feel that any of the girls from the 60s were exotic or stunning. They liked a softer doe eyed look. Not for me. Everyone under Raquel Welch’s pic on the list is…meh… They just look like a pretty girl. Very commercial. Give me strong features and piercing eyes. Not soft features with needy doe eyes.
I was just on a flight with Jane Fonda. How old is she now? She def has loads of wrinkles now…but maybe she is super old.

I feel sad for you that you have no eye for beauty. Jolie, with the blown up coligen lips can’t be mentioned in the same sentence as Sophia Loren, and go watch Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and tell me that Elizabeth Taylor is not the most beautiful woman of the 20th century. When they channeled Cleopatra through the tomb, they asked her, who she wanted to play her and of course she said Liz Taylor and Jane Fonda is in her 70’s, go watch Barbarella or ask Eddie about one of the sexiest roles EVER!!!!!!

Not talking about Angelina’s lips…which have had a bump of enhancement…but look at pics of her as a kid..then look at her own kids…those lips are super juicy all on their own. But the real treasure is her facial structure. Which does remind me of Sophia Loren. I have never been an Audrey Hepburn fan either. But I do like Jean Shrimpton and Brigitte Bardot. I have never been a Liz Taylor fan. Don’t like a sweet strawberry shaped face. I saw Cleopatra and felt she looked silly. Egyptian people do not look like that. Also a quick read up on Cleopatra states that it wasn’t that she was so super hot, but she had lots of charm about her and a personality.
Here is a link that talks about a book that is coming out about Liz. MGM deemed her nose too thick and sent her for a nose job in her early 20s.

Just for fun…here is a link about Marilyn Monroe’s plastic surgery to lose the Norma Jean Baker in her.

Remember, they did have plastic surgery way back when. But it was kept a huge secret!

Growing up in the sixties I am partial .I believe all of the actresses on this page were beautiful. Sophia Loren and Raquel Welsh aged gracefully actually even more beautiful with time. My favorites were Ann Margaret. Bridget Bardot ,and not mentioned Sharon Tate. I never respected Elizabeth Taylor ,though she was beautiful with those piercing blue eyes. Angelina Jolie had lost respect also when she robbed Americas sweet heart of her husband with those super huge lips, then again you cant take what falls into your lap. This is about the beauties of the 60s not the present.I agree with news burner and thank you for this article.

I believe that there is a lady born in Austria by the name of Astrid Herren who is strikingly beautiful. The most refined yet detailed beauty I have seen. A close second is France Nuyen, followed by another I think Austrian by the name of Senta Berger.
