Shower scenes on film are a right of passage for a pre-teen boy. Once you reach that 11 – 13 age range, you tend to be hiding from your parents night after night trying to get a glimpse of some cinematic skin. All boys go through it at one moment or another… some for a little too long, but I digress. In this column I’d like to list a few that I find to be not only historically significant to film but just plain fun.
Let’s begin with…
Kelly LeBrock in Weird Science – The fantasy creation played by Kelly LeBrock joins her creators in the shower for one of the funniest and sexiest movie shower scenes of all time. Easily makes the list.
#4 The cast of “Starship Troopers.” The co-ed marine shower in the sci-fi thriller—and anti-Nazi spoof—”Starship Troopers” shows a very casual conversation occurring between many naked people of both sexes. This look at a desexualized future makes for an interesting entry into one of the best movie shower scenes in recent memory. (WARNING: CONTAINS NUDITY)
#3 Beverly D’Angelo in “Vacation.” For a while, it seemed every comedy had a gratuitous shower scene. Beverly D’Angelo’s “talented” turn in “Vacation” is to thank for that. It’s funny she showed it all, but Christie Brinkley, as Clark Griswold’s fantasy sex object, did not. As my childhood movie crush, I was very happy that Ms. D’Angelo showed some of the goods.(WARNING: CONTAINS NUDITY)
#2 Sissy Spacek in Carrie – This famous shower scene, depending on when you saw it, may have been one of the most disturbing movie moments ever. Carrie gets her period in the school locker room shower and doesn’t know what’s happening to her. Neither did you, if you were young enough when you saw it. Chances are, you ended up fearing women, your own body, showering and Sissy Spacek as a result. By far one of the most powerful and haunting introductions to a movie in the history of film. #1 Janet Leigh in Psycho - Of course, THE shower scene. Not only one of the best shower scenes of all time, it’s simply one of the best movie scenes of all time. Hitchcock brilliantly scares you by what he leaves open to the imagination. You don’t see a knife actually penetrating the victim, but you somehow feel it. Far and away the #1 most interesting and iconic film shower scene of all time.
